Gregory O. McCullough
Biography

Gregory McCullough was raised in the Pacific Northwest where he sailed, skied, played football, and learned karate for self defense. He still enjoys these competitive activities, along with distance running (half marathons and marathons) and shorter races because of the competitive element and challenge they afford. At an early age, he developed an interest in language, logic, grammar, and argument. The youngest of five boys, he had ample opportunity to hone his skills at dinner table discussions facilitated by his father, a retired orthopedic surgeon.

McCullough's interests and competitive personality led him to pursue a career in law. He attended Seattle Preparatory School, where he maintained a 4.00 GPA; Seattle University, where he earned summa cum laude honors; and the University of Washington School of Law, where he graduated cum laude in the top 10 percent of his class.  He was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 1988. He served as a judicial law clerk at the Washington State Court of Appeals from 1988 to 1990. He married a Sanford native and moved to Sanford, where he was admitted to the Maine Bar in 1991.  He worked at the Sanford firm of Bourque & Clegg before starting his own practice in 1993. He has been at his current location in Sanford, 1074 Main Street, since 1995.

Attorney McCullough has taught the Sanford High School Mock Trial team every year since 1998, when his firstborn was a freshman in high school. His son and two younger daughters participated during all four of their high school years, and Sanford reached the state championship round for the first time ever when his youngest was a senior on the team in 2009.  "It allows me to pursue my love of teaching and the law," Mr. McCullough says of his mock trial coaching experience. "Even though none of my children have chosen to pursue a career in law -- at least not for now -- like the other students on Sanford's mock trial team, they are infinitely better prepared both personally and professionally in whatever they pursue because of the critical thinking skills which they have gained during their mock trial experience."
